How to choose the perfect Christmas tree

SuziQ's Garden Christmas trees in Cromwell

Christmas is the best time of the year and no Christmas holiday can truly commence without the pinnacle of the all Christmas decorations: A real Farm fresh Christmas Tree.

The tradition of the Christmas tree was started in Germany in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated pine trees into their home. Now, finding and decorating the perfect Christmas is a family tradition celebrated by millions of people throughout the world.

Taking a fake Christmas Tree out of a box year after year may be an easy option for many people, but there is nothing like the experience of taking the whole family to a Real Christmas Tree Farm to pick your own Tree.  Finding the perfect tree is a family affair, which can involve many generations from Grandparents to Grandchildren.

So how do you find the perfect Christmas tree and keep it fresh, lasting well after Christmas is celebrated?

1. Choose the right time

As tempting as it may be to put your Christmas tree up in September, if you want to make your tree last through the holiday, you’ll want to cut the tree mid to late November at the earliest. Cut Christmas trees will last about four weeks if cared for properly. We know for many, the Christmas tree excitement starts well before November so if you simply can’t wait to kickstart the festivities, come choose your tree as early as late October and we’ll keep it safe and sound for you until you’re ready to cut it.

2. Looking for your tree

Christmas trees all vary on their size and shape. Some are fat and short while others are tall and skinny. Each person will have their own preference for how they want their tree to look so allow yourself plenty of time to roam the rows of Christmas trees to find the perfect match, for your home Location., inside and outside.

3. Keep up the Water

No matter how great your tree looks in the ground, it will need a lot of love and care once cut and placed in your home. Trees like being in a cool place so avoid hot patches in the room. Once you have the tree set up in its stand or bucket, it’s time to water.

Fresh cut Christmas trees require a lot of water.  Fill your bucket with cool fresh water and every day check how much it’s taken up. In the first few days, your tree will be very thirsty so you will need to add at least 1 to 3 litres, depending on the height and size of the truck. Remember to check your water level daily.

We look forward to the Christmas season every year and love seeing the smiles and joy from families who visit our farm.
